The History of Bluebraes
I was brought up with Gundogs. My father owned and bred working labradors, occasionally showing them when time allowed. My affix BLUEBRAES was first registered by him in 1956 - the year of my birth! I had a firm grounding growing up in having dogs with good conformation, movement, type and temperament. A sensible breeding programme was followed, and my fathers dogs were sought after by some of the top gamekeepers in the country. I was married in 1977 and six weeks later we collected our first dog - a little blue roan cocker spaniel called Misty. Scott, my husband thought that Golden Retrievers were too large for the house. Two weeks later I achieved my ambition of owning a Golden Retriever!! Although bought initially as a pet, Rhona of Bluebraes proved to be an ideal foundation bitch, and with my first litter of goldens I was lucky enough to have bred a CC and a Res CC winner. Since then I have bred other prize-winning dogs, both at home and overseas. Throughout the years I have also owned and bred other Gundogs such as Cocker Spaniels, Flatcoat Retrievers, Labradors and an English Setter.  In 1992 I was joined in my affix by my daughter, Karen who also shows and breeds her goldens.

We are based in Scotland.  Wilma in Ayrshire and Karen in the Scottish Borders.  All our dogs live in the family home and are descended to our foundation bitch.
